Description of Class Project

Term topic: "Is Piracy really killing the music industry? How is new mediaeffecting the music industry and music artists"


I will be discussing the difficulties the music industry is facing as far as privacy and how it is choking sales. Nowadays people are downloading MP3 tracks for free though types of media like torrents, piratebay, soulseek etc, instead of purchasing them legally online or through retail stores. This is effecting the music industry as musicians will are left with no real incentive to produce music as they arent profiting from their work.

"What is New Media"

New media refers to the emergence of new technological advances in the computer industry. Most technologies described as "new media" are digital, often having characteristics of being manipulable, networkable, dense, compressible and impartial (1). Websites such as 'facebook', 'myspace', 'twitter', 'blogger' and 'bearcat search' are all examples of new media that allows one to network, interact with others and also do research. New media is rapidly improving and is replacing other old types of media as it faster and easier to use.
